The number FORTY and TWELVE in the Bible

The Number FORTY

Below is a complete list of verses using the number FORTY,let me suggest to you that the reason for using this number is as follows.

The majority of babies born are 40 weeks, symbolizing the physical body, hence all the 40's in the bible.

How many organs are there in the human body?

According to Dr. Linda Johnson, who teaches anatomy at the University of Texas Health Science

Center at San Antonio, the answer to your question is not an easy one! You think it would be but after a bit of explanation you'll understand why it isn't! The problem is the actual definition of an organ. To start at the very basic level, in the human body, atoms form into molecules, molecules into cells, cells into tissues, tissues into organs, organs into systems.

The problem starts when the individual scientist or physician has to decide how many tissues together form an organ. A very good example of this is with the salivary glands. There are the major "named" glands but - there are many very small glands that are not named. The problem is the question: "is each salivary gland considered an organ?" You can see where the problem is!

As for the classical or traditional definition of an organ - there are approximately 40 that includes the stomach, heart and SKIN!! (Linda Johnson, Ph.D., Department of Cellular and Structural Biology, UTHSCSA) You see there are 40 major organs in the body, and the average birth is at the 40th week.

So, what does this mean?

Another use of symbolism we see in the bible is the 40 days and nights of the rain in the Noah allegory. Again we see we can relate this to human body-mind connection. As we saw in the Jesus walking on water allegory, we can now understand that , the true meaning of the 40 days of rain.

when we are apart from God living in the physical, ruled by the qualities of our lower nature, living in our emotional body, controlled by the energy currents of the organs of the body, we feel the gamut of feelings and mood swings. This is because we are manifesting the physical nature instead of the Light (God from above). There are 40 organs in the body.

It means that we are born of the PHYSICAL, our spirit or soul is nesting inside a PHYSICAL body, to gain experience,to seek it's way back to the Father, or the Cosmos from whence it came.

The number forty signifies the Physical body and the soul taking up residence there.
We are always wandering in the wilderness spiritually when we stay in the forty (physical), we experience the flood of the forty days, wandering in deserts for forty tears, etc etc.

It simply means until we become one again, with the godhead, we are living in the forty (physical) and all of our thoughts and deeds, will be manifested from the Forty (physical) instead of the spiritual.

YOU SEE

The flood rains lasted 40 days and 40 nights

Moses was in the Egypt 40 years, Midian 40 years, and on the mountain 40 days.

Israel wandered in the wilderness 40 years.

The spies were in Canaan for 40 days.

Elijah fasted 40 days.

40 days was given to Nineveh.

Jesus fasted 40 days

Jesus was with His disciples for 40 days after His resurrection (Acts 1:3).

The number 40 is a very familiar one in the Bible. In the story of Noah and the flood, it rains 40 days and 40 nights (Gn 7:4,12,17; 8:6).

After the sealing of the covenant at Mt. Sinai, Moses is with God on the mountain for 40 days and 40 nights (Ex 24:18).

When the prophet Elijah is being pursued by Queen Jezebel, he flees for his life and travels 40 days and nights until he comes to the mountain of God at Horeb (Sinai) (1 Kgs 19:8).

The number appears also in the New Testament. Jesus is tempted in the desert for 40 days and nights; his ascension to heaven occurs 40 days after the Resurrection (Acts 1:3).

Numbers in the Bible are often not meant to be taken literally, but serve a symbolic function. Our suspicions are aroused especially with a number that recurs so frequently as 40. What would be the symbolic meaning of the number 40? On one level, it represents a longer period of time, but there is more.

The longer time has content: It is a time of need, of struggle, of testing. There is in fact extra-biblical evidence for this usage as well. But in the Bible, a third level of meaning appears.

Forty denotes a period of preparation for some special action of the Lord; it is a time of SEPERATION FROM GOD, LIVING UNDER THE RULE OF THE FORTY ORGANS (THE MATERIAL)instead of the spiritual.

After the flood in Genesis, a new creation begins. After Moses converses with God, the covenant is renewed. After Israel's wandering in the wilderness, they will enter into the Promised Land.

After Elijah's journey, God strengthens him to resume his prophetic ministry. After Jesus' temptation, he begins his public ministry; after the Ascension, we enter the age of the Church. At the end of the season of Lent, we celebrate Holy Week and the great feast of Easter.

Wilderness

Since the "time" of the wandering is symbolic, what about the place? Israel certainly knew the real wilderness, since that would describe fairly well the regions to the south, southwest and east across the Jordan. The desert is a place of no water and no food since little vegetation can grow there.

It is also the abode of dangerous animals. The desert is a place of extremes where choices are more clear-cut.That's why, our lord was crucified in a place spiritually called EGYPT.Because it is used as a metaphor, being apart, separated.

The wilderness carries a symbolic meaning. In the religion of Canaan, a special god named Mot (a word that can also mean "death") was in charge of the hot, dry, barren place, the wilderness, and of the hot, dry, barren time, the summer. Rain ceases; vegetation dries up and dies.

The wilderness is a negative place where the power of Death/Mot holds sway, where basic questions have to be dealt with. In the Gospels, Jesus is tempted in the wilderness to be a different kind of Messiah; to take the path of spectacle and power rather than that of humble service, but this temptation would continue throughout his ministry up to his death itself when he is taunted to come down off the cross.

Many spiritual writers today speak of a "wilderness experience." This is a kind of retreat experience, time set apart to focus on, to ask, to consider, to respond to basic questions of the spiritual life.

It need not be, and often is not, a literal "desert place," though that is not impossible. Lent is the Church's annual "wilderness experience," its retreat to ask again the basic questions

The significance of the number forty is living apart, or separated from god, because you are operating from your animal nature, you are the number FORTY.

The number forty "40" has remarkable coincidences in the Bible. There were forty days of rain (Gen. 7:17) at the time of the flood, forty days before sending forth the raven (Gen. 8:6), Forty days for embalming (Gen. 50:3), and of fasting by Moses (Ex. 24:18; 34:28; Deut. 9:9,25), by Elijah (1 Kin. 19:8), and by Jesus (Matt. 4:2). Spies were in the promised land for forty days (Num. 13:25).

Forty days of probation was given to the Ninevites (Jonah 3:4), the temptation of Jesus lasted for forty days (Luke 4:1-2), and Christ stayed forty days here on earth after His resurrection (Acts 1:3).

The number 40 is also used symbolically in Ezekiel 4:6.As for forty years, the Israelites wandered in the wilderness (Ex. 16:35; Num. 14:34, 32:13).

There was to be peace in Israel for forty years (Judg. 3:11, 5:31, 8:28). Egypt was to be desolated (Ezek.29:11) and restored after (Ezek.29:13).Also, Forty stripes were administered in punishing criminals (Deut. 25:3) and the 'forty minus one' or thirty-nine lashes (2 Cor. 11:24).

Goliath the Philistine took his stand against Israel for forty days (1 Sam. 17:16) and both David and Solomon reigned over Israel for forty years (1 Kin. 2:11, 11:42). Is there a common theme? In the sense of repentance/fasting yes, but there is not 'set time' in the Bible for how long we should repent or fast.

Act 1:3 - 40 days and 40 nights between resurrection and ascension

One of the laws of mikveh (a gathering of waters for immersion) is that it must hold at least forty Seah, or approximately 200 gallons of water. In deriving this quantity of forty Seah, we saw that in a sense, this was based upon a measure of man. It is interesting to note that the concept of forty occurs a great many times in the Torah. The Flood of Noah lasted forty days, Moses was on Mount Sinai for "forty days and forty nights" when he received the Torah, and the Israelites similarly spent forty years in the desert. There are many other places where we find the concept of forty in the Bible.

Why is the number forty so important? Why do we come across this number as a duration of time so often in the Torah? We find the beginnings of an answer in the laws of childbirth, as they applied in the time of the Holy Temple.

The pain and infirmity associated with childbirth are an indication of the imperfection of human reproduction, and therefore, they bring about a state of "impurity" in a woman who has given birth.

The Talmud states that one reason a woman had to bring a sacrifice after giving birth to a child was because she had so much pain that she would swear never again to bear a child.

Talmud - Mas. Nidah 31b R. Simeon b. Yohai was asked by his disciples: Why did the Torah ordain that a woman after childbirth should bring a sacrifice? He replied: When she kneels in bearing she swears impetuously that she will have no intercourse with her husband.

The Torah, therefore, ordained that she should bring a sacrifice. (R. Joseph demurred: Does she not act presumptuously in which case the absolution of the oath depends on her regretting it? Furthermore, she should have brought a sacrifice prescribed for an oath!)

And why did the Torah ordain that in the case of a male [the woman is clean] after seven days and in that of a female after fourteen days?

On the birth of a male with whom all rejoice she regrets her oath after seven days, [but on the birth of a female] about whom everybody is upset she regrets her oath after fourteen days. And why did the Torah ordain circumcision on the eighth day? In order that the guests shall not enjoy themselves[8] while his father and mother are not in the mood for it.

Childbirth, and the pain associated with it, is related to man's imperfection and therefore requires "purification. In speaking of this purification, the Torah says:

Leviticus 12:2-4 "When a woman conceives and bears a male child, she shall be unclean seven days, as the days of niddah... And she shall continue... for thirty-three days...."

Counting the days required for purification after childbirth, we find a total of forty.

Our sages teach us that these forty days represent the time that an embryo takes to attain human form. From a standpoint of Jewish Law, an embryo does not have any status as a human being until forty days after conception This concept is also sound from a scientific viewpoint, since it is well known that the human embryo begins to assume recognizable human form around the fortieth day after conception.

This helps explain why the flood described in the Torah lasted for forty days. According to the traditional interpretations, the main sin that brought about the flood was sexual immorality.

The Midrash thus says that the flood lasted for forty days because the people of that generation "perverted the embryo that is formed in forty days."

Therefore I WILL CAUSE IT TO RAIN FORTY DAYS AND FORTY NIGHTS. AND EVERY LIVING SUBSTANCE (YEKUM) THAT I HAVE MADE WILL I BLOT OUT. R. Berekiah said: That means, whatever exists (kayomaya) upon it.[16] R. Abin said: The one who arose against him [his brother] R. Levi said in the name of Resh Lakish: He [God] kept him [Cain] in suspense until the Flood came and swept him away: hence it is written, And He blotted out every one that had arisen (Gen. VII, 23).[19]

It is interesting to note that the Zohar gives a similar reason for the fact that the punishment was through water. The division of the waters represent the original concept of the aters below the diaphram, and the water in the brain, above the diaphram. "upper waters" as the male element, and the "lower waters" as the female.

Therefore, the "upper waters" and "lower waters" came together to punish them. The Torah thus says:

Genesis 7:11 "The springs of the great deep were split open, and the windows of heaven were opened.

This same concept also applies to Mikveh, which can be made up of rain waters and spring waters. The same concept also applies to the giving of the Torah. This also involves the idea of birth.

The Jewish people were born anew under the covenant of the Torah, and the Torah itself, in being transmitted to man, had to undergo a birth process. As in the case of man, this was to take forty days. The same reasoning also explains why the Israelites spent forty years in the desert. When Moses sent spies to explore the Promised Land, the Torah tells us that:

Numbers 13:25 "they returned from spying out the land at the end of forty days."

The spies knew that the Israelites would undergo a spiritual rebirth when they entered the Promised Land (the brain) In order to experience this rebirth themselves and report on it, the spies spent forty days in the land. They were not worthy of the land, however, and therefore, they brought back a bad report.

As a result of this report, the Israelites rebelled against Moses, not trusting that God would give them the land. It was then decreed that they should spend forty years in the desert, as the Torah says:

Numbers 14:34 "Following the number of days in which you spied out the land forty days - for every day, you shall bear your sins for a year forty years."

These forty years represent yet another kind of rebirth the rebirth of an entire generation that would be worthy of eventually entering the Promised Land. We see that the number forty represents the process of birth.

As we have said, it is related to the measure of man. This also explains the forty Seah of water that the Mikveh must contain. The Mikveh also represents the womb, and therefore, these forty Seah parallel the forty days during which the embryo is formed.

Numbers 13:16-25 These are the names of the men Moses sent to explore the land. (Moses gave Hoshea son of Nun the name Joshua.) When Moses sent them to explore Canaan, he said, "Go up through the Negev and on into the hill country.

See what the land is like and whether the people who live there are strong or weak, few or many. What kind of land do they live in? Is it good or bad? What kind of towns do they live in? Are they unwalled or fortified?

How is the soil? Is it fertile or poor? Are there trees on it or not? Do your best to bring back some of the fruit of the land." (It was the season for the first ripe grapes.) So they went up and explored the land from the Desert of Zin as far as Rehob, toward Lebo Hamath.

They went up through the Negev and came to Hebron, where Ahiman, Sheshai and Talmai, the descendants of Anak, lived. (Hebron had been built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.) When they reached the Valley of Eshcol, they cut off a branch bearing a single cluster of grapes.

Two of them carried it on a pole between them, along with some pomegranates and figs. That place was called the Valley of Eshcol because of the cluster of grapes the Israelites cut off there. At the end of forty days they returned from exploring the land.

Numbers 14:29-35 In this desert your bodies will fall every one of you twenty years old or more who was counted in the census and who has grumbled against me. Not one of you will enter the land I swore with uplifted hand to make your home, except Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.

As for your children that you said would be taken as plunder, I will bring them in to enjoy the land you have rejected. But you your bodies will fall in this desert. Your children will be shepherds here for forty years of, suffering for your unfaithfulness, until the last of your bodies lies in the desert.

For forty years one year for each of the forty days you explored the land you will suffer for your sins and know what it is like to have me against you.'I, the LORD, have spoken, and I will surely do these things to this whole wicked community, which has banded together against me. They will meet their end in this desert; here they will die."

Numbers 32:13 The LORD'S anger burned against Israel and he made them wander in the desert forty years, until the whole generation of those who had done evil in his sight was gone.

Deuteronomy 2:7 The LORD your God has blessed you in all the work of your hands. He has watched over your journey through this vast desert. These forty years the LORD your God has been with you, and you have not lacked anything.

Deuteronomy 8:1-6 Be careful to follow every command I am giving you today, so that you may live and increase and may enter and possess the land that the LORD promised on oath to your forefathers.

Remember how the LORD your God led you all the way in the desert these forty years, to humble you and to test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands.

He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your fathers had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD.

Your clothes did not wear out and your feet did not swell during these forty years. Know then in your heart that as a man disciplines his son, so the LORD your God disciplines you. Observe the commands of the LORD your God, walking in his ways and revering him.

Deuteronomy 9:9-11 When I went up on the mountain to receive the tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant that the LORD had made with you, I stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights; I ate no bread and drank no water.

The LORD gave me two stone tablets inscribed by the finger of God. On them were all the commandments the LORD proclaimed to you on the mountain out of the fire, on the day of the assembly. At the end of the forty days and forty nights, the LORD gave me the two stone tablets, the tablets of the covenant.

Deuteronomy 9:15-26 So I turned and went down from the mountain while it was ablaze with fire. And the two tablets of the covenant were in my hands.

When I looked, I saw that you had sinned against the LORD your God; you had made for yourselves an idol cast in the shape of a calf. You had turned aside quickly from the way that the LORD had commanded you. So I took the two tablets and threw them out of my hands, breaking them to pieces before your eyes.

Then once again I fell prostrate before the LORD for forty days and forty nights; I ate no bread and drank no water, because of all the sin you had committed, doing what was evil in the LORD'S sight and so provoking him to anger.

I feared the anger and wrath of the LORD, for he was angry enough with you to destroy you. But again the LORD listened to me. And the LORD was angry enough with Aaron to destroy him, but at that time I prayed for Aaron too.

Also I took that sinful thing of yours, the calf you had made, and burned it in the fire. Then I crushed it and ground it to powder as fine as dust and threw the dust into a stream that flowed down the mountain.

You also made the LORD angry at Taberah, at Massah and at Kibroth Hattaavah.

And when the LORD sent you out from Kadesh Barnea, he said, "Go up and take possession of the land I have given you." But you rebelled against the command of the LORD your God. You did not trust him or obey him. You have been rebellious against the LORD ever since I have known you.

I lay prostrate before the LORD those forty days and forty nights because the LORD had said he would destroy you.

I prayed to the LORD and said, "O Sovereign LORD, do not destroy your people, your own inheritance that you redeemed by your great power and brought out of Egypt with a mighty hand.

Deuteronomy 10:10 Now I had stayed on the mountain forty days and nights, as I did the first time, and the LORD listened to me at this time also. It was not his will to destroy you.

Deuteronomy 25:1-4 When men have a dispute, they are to take it to court and the judges will decide the case, acquitting the innocent and condemning the guilty.

If the guilty man deserves to be beaten, the judge shall make him lie down and have him flogged in his presence with the number of lashes his crime deserves, But he must not give him more than forty lashes. If he is flogged more than that, your brother will be degraded in your eyes.

Deuteronomy 29:5-6 During the forty years that I led you through the desert, your clothes did not wear out, nor did the sandals on your feet. You ate no bread and drank no wine or other fermented drink. I did this so that you might know that I am the LORD your God.

Joshua 5:5-7 All the people that came out had been circumcised, but all the people born in the desert during the journey from Egypt had not. The Israelites had moved about in the desert forty years until all the men who were of military age when they left Egypt had died, since they had not obeyed the LORD.

For the LORD had sworn to them that they would not see the land that he had solemnly promised their fathers to give us, a land flowing with milk and honey. So he raised up their sons in their place, and these were the ones Joshua circumcised. They were still uncircumcised because they had not been circumcised on the way.

Joshua 14:6-8 Now the men of Judah approached Joshua at Gilgal, and Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him, "You know what the LORD said to Moses the man of God at Kadesh Barnea about you and me.

I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the LORD sent me from Kadesh Barnea to explore the land. And I brought him back a report according to my convictions, But my brothers who went up with me made the hearts of the people melt with fear. I, however, followed the LORD my God wholeheartedly.

Judges 3:7-11 The Israelites did evil in the eyes of the LORD; they forgot the LORD their God and served the Baals and the Asherahs. The anger of the LORD burned against Israel so that he sold them into the hands of Cushan-Rishathaim king of Aram Naharaim, to whom the Israelites were subject for eight years.

But when they cried out to the LORD, he raised up for them a deliverer, Othniel son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother, who saved them. The Spirit of the LORD came upon him, so that he became Israel's judge and went to war.

The LORD gave Cushan-Rishathaim king of Aram into the hands of Othniel, who overpowered him. So the land had peace for forty years, until Othniel son of Kenaz died.

Judges 5:20-31 From the heavens the stars fought, from their courses they fought against Sisera. The river Kishon swept them away, the age-old river, the river Kishon.

March on, my soul; be strong! Then thundered the horses' hoofs--galloping, galloping go his mighty steeds. 'Curse Meroz,' said the angel of the LORD. 'Curse its people bitterly, because they did not come to help the LORD, to help the LORD against the mighty.'

"Most blessed of women be Jael, the wife of Heber the Kenite, most blessed of tent-dwelling women. He asked for water, and she gave him milk; in a bowl fit for nobles she brought him curdled milk. Her hand reached for the tent peg, her right hand for the workman's hammer.

She struck Sisera, she crushed his head, she shattered and pierced his temple. At her feet he sank, he fell; there he lay. At her feet he sank, he fell; where he sank, there he fell dead. "Through the window peered Sisera's mother; behind the lattice she cried out,

'Why is his chariot so long in coming? Why is the clatter of his chariots delayed? The wisest of her ladies answer her; indeed, she keeps saying to herself, Are they not finding and dividing the spoils: a girl or two for each man, colorful garments as plunder for Sisera, colorful garments embroidered, highly embroidered garments for my neck all this as plunder?'

"So may all your enemies perish, O LORD! But may they who love you be like the sun when it rises in its strength." Then the land had peace forty years.

Judges 8:28 Thus Midian was subdued before the Israelites and did not raise its head again. During Gideon's lifetime, the land enjoyed peace forty years.

Judges 13:1 Again the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the LORD, so the LORD delivered them into the hands of the Philistines for forty years.

I Samuel 4:16-18 He told Eli, "I have just come from the battle line; I fled from it this very day." Eli asked, "What happened, my son?" The man who brought the news replied, "Israel fled before the Philistines, and the army has suffered heavy losses. Also your two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, are dead, and the ark of God has been captured."

When he mentioned the ark of God, Eli fell backward off his chair by the side of the gate. His neck was broken and he died, for he was an old man and heavy. He had led Israel forty years.

I Samuel 17:12-19 Now David was the son of an Ephrathite named Jesse, who was from Bethlehem in Judah. Jesse had eight sons, and in Saul's time he was old and well advanced in years. Jesse's three oldest sons had followed Saul to the war: The firstborn was Eliab; the second, Abinadab; and the third, Shammah. David was the youngest.

The three oldest followed Saul, But David went back and forth from Saul to tend his father's sheep at Bethlehem.

For forty days the Philistine came forward every morning and evening and took his stand. Now Jesse said to his son David, "Take this ephah of roasted grain and these ten loaves of bread for your brothers and hurry to their camp.

Take along these ten cheeses to the commander of their unit. See how your brothers are and bring back some assurance from them. They are with Saul and all the men of Israel in the Valley of Elah, fighting against the Philistines."

2 Samuel 2:10 Ish-Bosheth son of Saul was forty years old when he became king over Israel, and he reigned two years. The house of Judah, however, followed David.

2 Samuel 5:4 David was thirty years old when he became king, and he reigned forty years.

I Kings 2:10-11 Then David rested with his fathers and was buried in the City of David. He had reigned forty years over Israel--seven years in Hebron and thirty-three in Jerusalem.

I Kings 6:14-17 So Solomon built the temple and completed it. He lined its interior walls with cedar boards, paneling them from the floor of the temple to the ceiling, and covered the floor of the temple with planks of pine.

He partitioned off twenty cubits at the rear of the temple with cedar boards from floor to ceiling to form within the temple an inner sanctuary, the Most Holy Place. The main hall in front of this room was forty cubits long.

The Shabbat preceding the week contains the potentiality of that upcoming week. Ergo, Shabbat Hagadol before Pesach, Shabbat Chazone before the Ninth of Av and the upcoming Shabbat Shuvah which precedes Yom Kippur.

This Shabbat' Parshas Nitsavim is always read before Rosh Hashanah. Not only does the very first verse reflect this, "You are standing today all of you before Hashem," it is reflected in the fact that Nitsavim is 40 verses long, paralleling the 40 days from the beginning of the month of Elul through Yom Kippur.

The 40 forty appears in the Torah to signify a time of rebirth and renewal. This is reflected in nature in the fact that it takes 40 days for a politically correct fertilized egg to become a sexist fetus. In the time of Noach, raining forty days and forty nights was to give the world a new beginning. Moshe was up on Mt. Sinai 40 days and nights which precipitated the birth of a new Nation.

After committing the sin of the calf, Moshe went up another 40 days and nights, for obvious reasons. Likewise, it should be no surprise, if not expected that we have 40 days between the beginning of the month of Elul and Yom Kippur when every Jew hopes to be "born again". Our slates wiped clean. YES! Our sins forgiven. PRAISE HASHEM! A new start. AMEN!

It is no coincidence that the sign of the month of Elul is the (Jewish) Maiden, symbol of purity and virtue, as long we can keep her away from the White House.

Final note:

It should be obvious to the reader at this time, that the number forty is a symbol of man/woman living apart from god, as your spirit is deeply entomed in the flesh (40) and seeks to come home to the fathers house (brain) through the (7) seals. Then you will have come to the promise land, you will have become transfigured on the mount, the 40 days of rain has subsided WITHIN you etc....

So, your first birth into this world is symbolized by the number 40, your second birth, which is the spiritual birth, or second birth is through the number SEVEN and then the fully manifested number TWELVE, and the 24 elders will be present in the temple (the brain)

Here are the scriptures showing the number TWELVE as well as some number TWELVES from around the world.

The hours are numbered from one to twelve for both the ante meridiem (a.m.) half of the day and the post meridiem (p.m.) half of the day. 12:00 after a.m. and before p.m. (in the middle of the day) is noon, and 12:00 after p.m. and before a.m. (in the middle of the night) is midnight.

A new day is considered to start with the stroke of midnight.
The minute hand of a clock face turns twelve times as fast as the hour hand.

he number 12 appears several times in the Bible, i.e., the twelve tribes of Israel, the twelve disciples of Christ, twelve stones, twelve princes, etc. It is my belief that these represent the twelve signs of the zodiac:

Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces.

2 sons of Israel (Yaaqov). They are bonded into oneness in their Father Israel. When they buried their father, Israel, there were three tribes on each o the four sides of the bier, in exactly the same order as they camped in the wilderness as tribes.

12 Tribes. They are bonded into the oneness of the nation of Israel. There are three tribes to the north, south, east, and west of the Tabernacle. See picture below.
12 constellation on the ecliptic (zodiak).

They are bonded into oneness on the ecliptic. The constellations are divided into four sets by the vernal equinox, the summer solstice, the autumnal equinox, and the winter solstice.

12 months. They are bonded into oneness in a solar year.

The months are divided into three sets of four by the seasons: spring, summer, autumn, and fall.

12 Apostles. They are bonded into oneness as Apostles.

12 Loaves of showbread. They are bonded into oneness on the table of showbread.

12 gates in the New Jerusalem. They are bonded into the oneness of the wall. There were three gates in each of the four walls of the city.

12 Daylight hours. They are bonded into the oneness of a day. There are four watches in a day.

12 Nighttime hours. They are bonded into the oneness of a night. There are four watches in a night.

12 Stones on the brestplate of the Kohen Gadole, the High Priest.

12 stones that Yaaqov placed under his head on his way to Charan fused into one stone.

Whether on a conscious or unconscious level, the fact that Jacob gathered twelve stones alludes to the twelve tribes that he will bring into the world as a result of his marriage in Charan.

More specifically, the fusion of the twelve stones alludes to the fusion of the twelve tribes. This unification of the twelve sons of Yaaqov occurred just prior to his death. Surrounding Yaaqov's bed, his twelve sons proclaimed as one:

“Hear O Israel (Jacob's name) God is our God, God is One”

The only other instance in the Bible of stones fusing together is when King David kills Goliath. In I Samuel 17:40 David takes five stones to put in his slingshot.
Verse 49 describes him as killing Goliath with the one stone in his slingshot. Here too, the five stones fused into one.

The numbers of these stones reflect a beautiful mathematical phenomenon that sheds a new light on the inner meaning of these two fusion events. There is an important mathematical relation between 12 and 5. 12 squared equals 144, while 5 squared equals 25.

144 plus 25 equals 169, which is 13 squared. 13 is the numerical value of the word echad ("one"). This reflects the plurality of the many stones becoming one.
The word echad is spelled alef (1), chet ( 8), dalet (4). Together, the chet and dalet represent the twelve tribes.

They combine with their father, Israel, represented here by the alef, in their proclamation that HaShem is One.

The 12 sons combine with their one father to manifest the unity of echad (13).

he Heavenly City

The city of God in Revelation chapter 21, symbolic of the church and also called the bride of Christ.

10And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God,
11Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal; 12And had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel:

On the east three gates; on the north three gates; on the south three gates; and on the west three gates. And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb

And he that talked with me had a golden reed to measure the city, and the gates thereof, and the wall thereof.

And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal.

And he measured the wall thereof, an hundred and forty and four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of the angel.

And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass.

And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, a chalcedony; the fourth, an emerald;

The fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolite; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, a topaz; the tenth, a chrysoprasus; the eleventh, a jacinth; the twelfth, an amethyst.

And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass.
Revelation 21:10-21

The city has twelve gates with the names of the twelve tribes on them.
Twelve angels stand at the gates, the walls have twelve foundations garnished with twelve precious stones, and in them the names of the twelve apostles.
The city is twelve thousand furlongs square, and the twelve gates are twelve pearls.
The number twelve is used here symbolically of Gods perfect government.

Twelve is here nine times and the walls are 144 cubits = 12 x 12. If we accept the 144 being a reference to 12 then we have ten such in this passage.

But also not that the length bredth and height are all equal, all twelve thousand furlongs.

If we count this as three measures of twelve rather than just one, than there are twelve, twelves in this passage of twelve verses.

Perfect numbers

Twelve is one of the perfect numbers, three is divine perfection, seven is spiritual perfection, ten is ordinal perfection and twelve is governmental perfection. It is thus that the children of Israel are divided into twelve tribes.

Even though there are in actuality thirteen tribes, every time they are listed only twelve are listed. Similarly in the New Testament Jesus chose for himself twelve apostles.

Twelve is the product of three times four and the significance of both of these numbers can usually be seen in twelve.

Three is divine perfection and usually denotes things from or of God, thus wee see that perfect government can only exist when God is involved, in particular we shall only have perfect government when God rules all.

Four is the number of the world and the creation, thus we see the perfect governments connection to that which is governed. It is the things of this world, the nature of this world that it needs to be governed.

The Twelfth Chapter

The twelfth chapter of the Bible starts with God calling Abram to come out of the land he was living in and go where God would tell him.

This is the beginning of Gods plan to call out a nation unto himself, that would be ruled by God and be a testimony to all the nations of the earth of the one true God.
That the nation of Israel failed to live up to their glorious calling in no way alters Gods intentions or plans. Here we can clearly see the link between perfect government and the number twelve.

It is interesting to not that six, the number of man only comes halfway to perfect government.

By definition, perfect government must involve God, man alone cannot reach it. Thus in Genesis chapter twelve we have God calling out his nation in the person of Abraham who would be its father.

Abraham was called to leave his family and home, without even knowing where he was going, God would tell him later. Thus right from the start, walking by faith was what the Lord demanded.

The Twelve Tribes

The twelve sons of Israel, who became the head of the twelve tribes can be divided in the following manner.

Six were the sons of Leah, if you remember Jacob (Israel) was tricked into marrying Leah instead of Rachael. Nevertheless God turned misfortune into blessing in that fully half of Jacob's sons were by his wife Leah.

Two sons were born to Jacobs favored wife Rachael. However before they were, Rachael tried her own solution to her apparent barreness and had her handmaid bear two sons to Jacob in her stead. Leah saw this and also had her handmaid bear two sons for Jacob.

However Rachels oldest son, Joseph, had his own two sons, grandsons of Jacob adopted as Jacobs sons. Thus there are thirteen "sons" of Jacob. When the Lord gave the Israelites the law he commanded that the tribe of Levi (the decendants of one of Leah's

sons - Levi) become the priests for the whole nation and there were not to be reckoned a tribe anymore. Thus in effect only five tribes came from Leah. Thus bearing in mind these two important "legal" changes to the birth order of Jacobs twelve sons we have:

Rachael
Manasseh
Ephraim
Benjamin

three sons, the number of divine perfection, Jacob worked for Rachael, God granted her sons despite her barreness, these were the sons of promise.

Leah
Ruben
Simeon
Judah
Issachar
Zebulun

- the wife that Jacob was tricked into marrying by the devious Laban, nevertheless God blessed a bad situation and thus five tribes can be reckoned to Leah, Five is the number of grace, exactly what God showed Jacob in turning all things to good for him.

Also as mentioned in Genesis 29:31, when God saw that Jacob did not love Leah, he granted her grace and she conceived, thus Gods mercy was also unto Leah as well as Jacob.

Bilhah and Zilpah
Dan
Naphtali
Gad
Asher

Ehe two handmaids together bore Jacob four sons. Having their handmaids bear children to Jacob on their behalf was the solution of the two wives who were competing against each other. Their natural, worldly solution to their envy, is marked with the number four, the number of the world.

Symbolism

Twelve is the number of what is completed, which forms a whole, a perfect and harmonious unit. In the ancient civilizations, like Oriental and Judaic, it corresponds to the plenitude, the completion and the integrality of a thing. R. Allendy tells that it expresses the idea that the Universe forms a whole, associated with the idea of differentiation - 10 + 2.

Represent the manifestation of the Trinity to the four corners of the horizon - 3 X 4.

Symbolize the command and the good, and governs the space and the time, that is to say the operation of the Cosmos, from where its designation of cosmic number.

God would have given to Moses not ten but twelve commandments. In addition, in the revelations of Maria Valtorta, Jesus declares that "if the Commandments of the Law are ten Commandments given by God the Father to Moses on the Sinai (Ex 20)in reality they are twelve since that the Word of the Father, the eternal and infinitely perfect Wisdom, has completed and perfected the Law,teaching that commandments of the commandments are: 'To love God of all yourself, and your neighbor as yourself', because these two firsts and main commandments are, in reality, the base of life of the Ten,

since the three firsts can not be practiced if you don't love God of all yourself, of all your forces, of all your soul, and that the seven others can not be practiced if you don't like the neighbor as yourself, without lacking to the love, to the justice and to the honesty towards what or anyone."

Me only am for you the Perfection. And from Me, this unique Spirit is divided into twelve virtues for the man. Even if in you, you have all them, only one prevails and for you: it is the love. Here is the charisma by which the Holy Spirit leads you to Me.

In other brothers, other virtues prevail, but all you assume yourselves in Me. This is why I tell you it: do not seek to act with another charisma that, while being in you, does not prevail on which my Father has given you, otherwise you will not succeed in your mission.

That is be quite clear! John could not be Peter, neither Peter Philip, nor Philip James, neither James Andrew, nor Andrew Jude, neither Jude Thomas!." Supposing the Universe is 13 billion years old, the lights from this quasar we see now left it just after the Universe was born, or only 1 billion years after the Big Bang, and have traveled space towards our planet for 12 billion years.
